Misconceptions

Here are nine common misconceptions about the Roofing Warranty Certificate form:

  1. Lifetime coverage means forever. Many people believe that "lifetime" means the roof is covered for an indefinite period. In this case, it refers to a 50-year period from the warranty issue date.
  2. The warranty covers all types of damage. Some homeowners think the warranty protects against any damage. However, it specifically excludes issues caused by defective materials or structural problems.
  3. Transferring the warranty is automatic. Many assume the warranty transfers to a new owner without any action required. In reality, the transferee must request the transfer in writing.
  4. Roof cleaning is optional. Some homeowners believe they can skip cleaning their roof. The warranty requires cleaning every two years, or it may become void.
  5. MCS Roofing covers all repairs. It is a common misconception that MCS Roofing will handle all repairs at no cost. Repairs not related to workmanship may incur charges.
  6. Not reporting issues promptly is acceptable. Many homeowners think they can report problems at their convenience. If issues are not reported promptly, the warranty may become void.
  7. Natural disasters are covered. Some believe that all damage from natural disasters is included in the warranty. However, it explicitly excludes damages from events like floods, fires, and earthquakes.
  8. Altering the roof won't affect the warranty. Many think they can make changes to the roof without consequences. Any tampering or alteration can void the warranty.
  9. MCS Roofing is liable for all damages. Some homeowners believe MCS Roofing is responsible for any damage that occurs. The warranty limits their liability to specific terms outlined in the document.
